Edward Scribner Ames was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, on April 21, 1890. He was the son of a Disciples of Christ Minister, and became a minister himself after his graduation from Drake College (A.G., 1889, A.M., 1891). Ames received his B.D. from Yale in 1892, and accepted a doctoral fellowship at the University of Chicago in 1894. Martin Luther King, Jr. (b. January 15, 1929, Atlanta, Georgia –d. April 4, 1968, Memphis, Tennessee) was an American Baptist minister and activist who was a leader in the Civil Rights Movement.
